Our mentors and academic advisors are dedicated leaders of our local communities who want to see students succeed. Many of our mentors are students who are enrolled in graduate school and have experience with applying to various programs. Mentors are assigned to each student based on their program of interest and what stage they are in their educational journey. Our academic advisors are students who can counsel students just beginning their education journey on the admission process, curriculum, pre-requisites, and entrance exams.

Who Can Apply
- Healthcare students or professionals in fields such as medicine, nursing, pharmacy, PA, PT/OT, public health, or allied health.
- College juniors/seniors, graduate students, or licensed professionals who can provide reliable guidance.
- Individuals with strong communication skills, professionalism, and a genuine desire to support Louisiana students.
- Applicants who can commit to consistent mentorship for the full program cycle (4-6 months).
- Mentors who demonstrate integrity, empathy, and respect for students from diverse backgrounds.
- Individuals who understand and support LFHL’s mission of equity, access, and opportunity for underserved and first‑generation students.
Expectations & Responsibilities
- Provide accurate, ethical guidance based on your training and experience.
- Maintain regular communication with your mentee (weekly, biweekly, or monthly).
- Help students set goals related to academics, career exploration, or professional development.
- Model professional behavior, including punctuality, respect, and confidentiality.
- Notify LFHL if any issues arise with scheduling, communication, or mentee needs.
📌Program Rules & Prohibited Actions
1. No Additional Fees.
LFHL does not allow private financial transactions between mentors and students. Mentors may NOT:
- Charge students for mentorship
- Request “tips,” “donations,” or “extra sessions” for payment
- Offer paid services outside the LFHL structure
2. Maintain Professional Boundaries
- Keep communication appropriate and respectful
- Avoid sharing personal or sensitive information
- Use approved communication channels when possible
- Report concerns to LFHL staff
3. Protect Student Privacy
- Keep student information confidential
- Avoid posting mentee details on social media without permission
- Follow LFHL guidelines for safe communication
